What a contest!
First morning I worked over 40 USA stations. Excellent condition.
First night I worked only 10 USA stations. Good condition.
Second night I worked K3ZM. Even Europeans were weak. Poor condition.
But few moments make this contest bright and unforgettable.
No commercial power both nights. Used generator. Lost about 6 hours of darkness
and about 300 qso's (I recon).
XE1RCS was solid copy for about 2 Hours! 579 when QSO. While calling XE1 team
UP2L was very close to their frequency. When they realized I am calling Mult
they QSYed. True gentleman behavior guys! Appreciate it! Than I have been
called by Al CE1/K7CA! And only than I managed to work Mexico as a New Country
and Zone!
30 state/provinces worked. If someone tell me that before contest I would think
he is crazy. But propagation first hours of the contest made me crazy!
When I was called by C6ANM, TI4CF, ZY7C I almost felt down from the chair.
I spend a lot of time S&P. QRM level in EU was so high that my signal was
buried. I am too far from populated areas: 5000 km to West EU, 10,000 to US,
6000 km to JA. But I was rewarded with impressive multipliers. Few to mention
are VP9/N1NSB 599!!, KL7RA 579!!, 6W/DL2MRC, TF3CW, JW5NM, PJ2T and few
excellent Africa, Asia and Oceania mults.
First night I had good copy of many US/NA stations like W8JI, VE3EJ, VE3EY,
K9RS, V31YN, FM's but no qso.
It was great event!

My main goal was to beat my 2003 score. My setup was improved since than and I was really ready to fight
with myself. EY is too far from populated areas so it is almost impossible to be competitive World Wide.
Polar pass to NA, 5000 km to most ham-populated EU countries, 6000 km to JA (one-pointers), mountains
around make contesting is very challenging. May be that is why I like it so much!
Weather was really good for working with antennas. It was +21 Celsius outside when I installed Beverages
and make station ready for contest.
No unexpected technical problems occur during my stay on contest position. Electrical power was not cut
off and only problem was fluctuation of mains 180-250 V depends of load of nearby villages. Because weather
was so warm people around did not used it too much for heating.
Condition was average first night and excellent second. First night I had eight S-units noise on all my
Beverages and it was thrill to hear one or two layers of stations calling me. I apologize for not being
able to hear most of the stations weaker than 589. Even so I had to ask calls again and again. Really
hard job.
Second night noise dropped to normal S Zero point and I enjoyed good propagation and strong signals from
all over the world.
My result is higher than planned by 300 qso. As last year on 160 I decided to spent less time for S@P
and spent more time calling CQ.
This approach pays off again and I was very happy to be called by many extraordinary DX countries and
Zones. I made few qso on other bands (mostly 160) and specially to mention that I couldn't resist HC8N
request to
QSY on 160 as it was New One for me.
Weak opening to USA last hour of the contest brought me few new stations in log. I wish I can make at least
10% of USA qsos in my log from EY.
I would like to thank Nick UN4L for competition and raising the bar of Zone 17 record on high level and make
us work hard to compete. Actually this competition leaded some changes in continent records too.
GL and tomorrow it is time to start preparations for CQ WW 2009 season.

Till last minute was not sure which band to operate. First hour spent on 80 than
decided to QSY and stay on 160.
This is very difficult contest on low bands from center of continent. Mostly S&P but few runs on CQ.
Bad QRN this year and deep QSB.
Very special signals from VE1ZZ, VY2ZM, D4C, TF3SG and many others.

Excellent activity and number of DX from all parts of the world.
My goal was setting new Zone 17 record which I did. Excellent condition to NA first night. Logged about 40 NA/SA
stations during 2 hour pile up. When OA4/N6XQ followed by PJ5NA called me I thought that I am dreaming. :)
Electricity still a big problem on country QTH because of flactuations. Krassy K1LZ got his report on 200 W
when ampifier protection shut it down.
Many very special signals from NA.
Most of qso's made on CQ and I am really appreciate everyone who found my
signal on the band.
I had a lot of fun!

Everything worked great and no Murphy visits. Only problem is too much noise on
BV to Pacific cost me few mults.
Nice experience! Main problem to keep CQ freq. Instantly somebody from EU comes
on. QRM inside EU are too high and to keep frequency you need to produce realy
strong signal.
Overal goal was to set Zone 17 record as my QTH is deep in continent and not
really competitive on Low Band contesting.
Great condition second morning to Carribean. Signals were so strong that it was
easy to hunt. Prop did not open to EU from Carribean and my signal was quite
competitive. Missed V4 mult from Carribean.
Second night was dissapointing. Band was noisy and no real good signals even
from big guns. No NA signals at all.

Excellent experience as usual. Finaly managed to operate in this contest after few years QRT.

3 Beverages (320 m to EU/NA, 200 m to VK and NA LP, 150 m to JA)
Due to radar jamming in BY - low activity from Japan. I was operating part time.
Alex EY8CQ operated about 30% of the time chasing new ones. I decided to pay
attention to NA qso and New Ones this year so got Cluster as a second Op.
Poor condition to USA.
Highlights:
1. Super signal from NP4A but no qso.
2. Excellent signals from KV4FZ, VY2ZM, PJ2T, ST2A and good RX.
3. Award for best RX goes to UA2F team operated as CN2A.
4. Thanks for comming back to my CQ: 9N7JO, 3W3W, XU7ACY, 9K2HN, EA8EA, ZA/Z35M, YA/LY1Y and many others.
5. Great number of super operators. Can't list them all.
Missed about 10 mults which I heard: IS0, GW, GU, NP4, YB, BY, VR2, DU, ZL, VK and KC1XX.
Worked 12 NA right after the contest.

I beleive Single Band SSB contesting on the Low Bands from Central
Asia is over to me. EU covered entire band with very little chance
for remote stations. Almost each CQ ended with EU station calling
CQ on your freq. So most of the contest I did This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. East Coast
station Heard KC1XX and loudest was K1LZ.
Just a few station I heard I didn't work from US. I missed VE3REM
for Zone mult. Special thanks for 3DA0WW and E51QMA for comming back
to my CQ and New One.I beleive that Vlad UP0L (UN9LW) set up new
Zone 17 record. Old UW9AF result on CQWW Web should be removed because
it is not calculated correctly. Simple calculation shows that his
result is over 5 poitns per QSO which is impossible.Congrats to
Jim CN2R and his Super Result. I hope he will post it shortly.
